West Academic is the leading provider of casebooks, study aids and other legal education materials in the US. We are a growth oriented organization, dedicated to providing our customers with the best available legal education and reference materials.  We are looking for people to help us transform the legal education industry by bringing new technology and products to market.  We recently acquired Adaptibar, an online diagnostic study tool to assist law students in preparing for the bar exam.

We are looking for a results-driven, team-oriented, self-motivated professional who combines exceptional technical knowledge and effective communication skills for the position of Full Stack Developer/Software Engineer for the Adaptibar business. You will be responsible for working on full life cycle development for Adaptibar’s products and internal projects. You will also be using Agile practices and maintaining high code quality practices as part of the development team.  This position can be located in either our St. Paul or Chicago office.  

Key Technical Skills

  • C#/.NET (MS Visual Studio 2012, 2015, 2017), ASP.NET MVC 3+ or Web API 2.0, Entity Framework 6.0, SQL Server 2016)
  • CSS, HTML5, XHTML, XML, XSL, AJAX , JavaScript, JQuery, Knockout.js, Angular
  • Web Services, REST, SOAP, JSON, WCF
  • MS Team Foundation Server
  • Third Party Unit test tools, including: MSTest, NUnit, JSUnit
  • MS Office integration, MS Build script
  • SQL (Oracle, SQL Server)

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement OO and MVC based designs applying working knowledge of design patterns in presentation, data and business modules
  • Collaborate with other software engineers, contribute to design decisions and develop functionality based on application requirements
  • Build out new features/resolve bugs for student, dean and marketing applications. Investigate and resolve issues in development, test and production environments.Initiate acceptance testing and handle deployments to production.
  • Communicate/collaborate with offshore team on a daily basis
  • Help manage projects in TFS (create user stories, tasks, assign work items, determine priority, etc)
  • Facilitate and fulfill tasks as a member of an agile team, using agile practices 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related software technology field.
  • 2+ years of full stack web application development experience
  • Strong knowledge of .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET MVC or Web API 2.0, Entity Framework 6.0, SQL Server 2016)
  • Experience with client-side technologies (JavaScript, HMTL, CSS)
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication, problem solving and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of object oriented design and development
  • Proven ability to adapt well in a fast paced environment

Desired Skills

  • 1+ years experience working with Angular (2+) or Vue.js in a production environment
  • 1+ years of experience with TypeScript
  • Production support experience
  • Extensive knowledge of applications/development methodologies
  • Extensive knowledge of appropriate operating systems, programming languages and development tools
